What is PIANC?

PIANC is a worldwide non-political and non-profit making technical organization of private individuals, corporations and national governments. The purpose of PIANC is to promote the maintenance and operation of both inland and ocean navigation by fostering progress in the design, construction, improvement, maintenance and operation of inland and maritime waterways and ports and of coastal areas for general use in industrialised as well as in developing countries. Since PIANC was founded in 1885 as the oldest international Association concerned with these technical aspects of navigation, it has made and continues to make a vital contribution to technical development in this field.

Headquarters: Brussels(BELGIUM)
Membership: Governments of 67 countries, 518 corporate members 2,045 individual and life-members(as of November 2003)
Activities:
Congress international Navigation Congress held every 4years
Commissions Annual General Assembly(AGA), Council and various kinds of commissions
Studies There are 4 standing commissions and study activities are carried out by working groups under the following commissions:
MarCom for seaports
InCom for inland waterways
EnviCom for environmental aspects
RecCom for recreational navigation aspects
Seminars Seminars are held mainly for developing countries under supervision of the International Cooperation Commission
Publications A periodical international Bulletin for all members and study reports

What is JS-PIANC?

JS-PIANC is the Japanese Section of PIANC and is implementing the following services for Japanese members.
Information service on the activities of PIANC
Providing subsidies for Japanese participants to the working groups held by the headquarters
Distribution service of Bulletin and other publications
